Yes, we must make sure that a final sharing and exhibition of the video sound pieces will take place. I will invoke all the gods and ancestors met along the way for support -:) And surely, something about my dreams will be published soon…

I like what you notice and the stories you make as you go on the strength of the abstract details – the colours, noises and smells. I like the ‘stills’ and am not missing moving film…. but from what you are saying here, this too promises to be exciting. Looking forward to more. Get some sleep.. and tell us about your dreams too!

That’s it: “humanity at the edge, both fantastic and terrifying”. You summarise my experience in this amazing city so perfectly that I’m left wondering if the best way to reflect on my time in Shanghai isn’t through the eyes and sensibilities of people like you!

You have conjured up a fleeting picture of an alien cityscape. It joins memories of other images of that place and leaves me wondering how much that world has changed since my Grandfather’s childhood, caught in sepia photos in fragile leather-bound albums, along with accounts of the English in China 100 years ago. The strange and heady mix of garish temporary clutter drawn from ancient time honoured traditions of oriental aesthetics versus the Buddhist way of peace and tranquillity. The rush, pace and chaos of a populous in constant movement and change versus the pockets of public stillness and pause. This is surely humanity at the edge, it is both fantastic and terrifying. Change is the new God, bring me my opium!!

I was so moved reading your latest blog, that sense of longing for what is “home” which cannot be restricted to a specific location but is the sum of feelings and sentiments of being comfortable and contented, which transcend physical, geographical and time limitations.
You are an amazing artist and I am honoured to be your friend.
